The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday directed provincial authorities to provide a detailed report about the soaring prices of essential commodities at Ramazan Bazars. Justice Mamoonur Rasheed Sheikh directed the authorities to ensure that essential items were sold at their fixed prices at Ramazan Bazars. “Why has the price of sugar risen by Rs 10 all of a sudden during Ramazan,” he asked. The judge remarked that the provincial government should take measures to check prices of essential items throughout the year instead of establishing Ramazan Bazars. “Essential commodities should be sold at their fixed prices at Ramazan Bazars,” Justice Sheikh said. The hearing was then adjourned till May 30.
