Sir: Ramadan, a holy month of Islam, Allah says in the Holy Quran: “O ye who believe! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become righteous. The prescribed fasting is for a fixed number of days, but who so among you is sick or is on a journey shall fast the same number of other days; and for those who are able to fast only with great difficulty is an expiation – the feeding of a poor man. And who so performs a good work with willing obedience, it is better for him. And fasting is good for you, if you only knew.” (2:184-185)
The Holy Prophet has highlighted the importance of fasting by saying, “If people knew about the excellences of Ramadan, then my Ummah (all Muslims), would have wished the entire year to be Ramadan.”
Ramadan imparts the message of giving more in charity from all with which God has blessed us. May we always remember to include the less privileged as a part of our happiness so that we can live a purposeful life full of blessings.
