Larkana Police Range should be appreciated for successfully reducing heinous crimes of robberies, dacoities, kidnapping for ransom, honour killing and murder cases to over 90 per cent during the last five years. The jurisdiction of the Larkana Police Range is spread to five districts, including Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Kambar-Shahdadkot and Larkana. In April 2014, as many as 1238 crimes were reported, which have been reduced to a mere 100 at the end of April 2019. According to details, in 2014, as many as 212 robbery cases were reported. However, this fell to only 10 cases in April 2019. Likewise, 336 dacoities were registered in 2014; now reduced to 20. Kidnapping for ransom cases stood at 49 in 2012 while only one was registered up to April 2019. 107 honour killing cases took place in 2014 but only 12 have occurred till April 2019. As many as 534 murder cases were reported in 2014 but only 57 have so far been registered. In 2018, as many as 17 sodomy cases were registered. Compared to which, only four were reported till February 28, 2019. 12 child marriage cases were highlighted from 2014 to 2018, yet no such case took place this year till February 28. A total of 12 children went missing between 2012 and 2018. However, no such case was reported in 2019. These figures clearly validate that if allowed to discharge its official and moral duties free of political involvement, Sindh police can deliver and eliminate crime with an iron hand of the law. Locals especially the trading community would be able to carry out their business activities comfortably without fear of being robbed. In this connection, when Larkana Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Irfan Ali Baloch, was contacted on Saturday, he noted Larkana was an insecure and dangerous region 10-12 years earlier. Then, the kidnapping industry was quite active while highway robberies and murders were at their peak, added. The crime situation was said to be very bad then, which has now improved a lot. For which, Sindh police should be commended because, he added, it is their biggest achievement to maintain peace and tranquillity. He claimed Larkana Range police had been very successful in restoring law and order alone without the support of Rangers, unlike Karachi. To a question, DIG Baloch replied that political involvement had also reduced as station house officers (SHOs) and deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) were being posted on merit to maintain order in the province.
