Three police officers, who registered a case against Housing Minister Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed’s son were arrested on Monday. The officers were arrested after a case was registered against them following an investigation by Gulberg Superintendent of Police on the orders of investigations deputy inspector general. The police officers namely Nadeem Iqbal, Usman Mushtaq and Usman Saeed were booked under sections 155-C and 382 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The First Information Report against them stated that the police officers used to blackmail couples by making their videos and demanding money in return. “The suspects tortured Ali Mustafa and Fiza Jameel and snatched Rs 2,000 from them. The suspects also asked the two to withdraw Rs 50,000 from an ATM and hand it to them,” the FIR added. As the said couple was being taken to the police station, the youth – a certain Ali Mustafa – had called Mian Hassan. The police had further claimed that the suspects, led by Mian Hassan, snatched guns from the constables, bundled them into their cars and drove away before dropping the kidnapped policemen at different places and fled away. However, according to the FIR filed on Sunday, an inquiry and analysis of the police officials’ phones found several videos of couples being blackmailed and even tortured. The FIR filed by Ghalib Market Station House Officer Rehan Jamal further stated that in the aforementioned case, the police officials had snatched Mustafa’s wallet and taken Rs 2,000 from it, while demanding that he pay them Rs 50,000 more. SHO Rehan Jamal, in the FIR, stated that the police constables’ actions were “against police discipline and utterly illegal” and resulted in bringing a bad name to the police.
