ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Asad Umer on Wednesday has confirmed that the government is going to avail the 19th program of International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“We are going to take 19th IMF program. However, this would be the last IMF program of Pakistan,” the finance minister said, while speaking to a private news channel.
“PTI government doesn’t want to approach the IMF. However, this is the first time, IMF presented before the government complete requirements,” the minister said. The talks with an IMF delegation were underway and the situation would become clear in the next few days, he added.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Asad Umer held a meeting with IMF delegation for bailout talks. He apprised the delegates of corrective measures being taken to remove imbalances in the economy.
The finance minister said that the government intends to introduce structural and institutional reforms for a turnaround in the economy.
Talks between Pakistani officials and the IMF will continue until November 20.
