Former Barcelona captain Xavi Hernandez has lauded current leader Lionel Messi saying that he is incomparable and that he can play for as long as he is 38, 39 or 40. Speaking to Catalan Radio, Xavi said: “For a player like Messi, you need very little to do to play for as long as he is 38, 39 or 40. He is incomparable. Let’s be honest, what do you lose when you grow old as a footballer? Physical pace? But mental pace, that’s what Messi has and that won’t diminish.” Talking about the areas Messi would prefer to play at in the future, the midfield maestro said Messi can play wherever he wants to and do whatever he wants to in a football field. “I think that he would be able to play wherever he wants on the park. He already drifts into the centre of the field and is effective there, as he is at defending too because he is very strong mentally.” Earlier this week, Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo said in an interview with France Football that he can play for another 6-7 years since he feels fit and is hungry for more. Considering both the superstars are going to play for another half-a-decade, does that mean the world of football will never see an end to the Messi-Ronaldo debate? Have something to say?
