ISLAMABAD: A tug of war has started between the National Highways Authority (NHA) cChairman and its members after the award of the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway contract to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). Sources within the Ministry of Communications told Online news agency that differences persist in the NHA over the handing out of the contract to FWO. The feasibility report of this project, announced by PM Nawaz Sharif, has been finalised and the section of the motorway will be constructed with the cost of Rs 44 billion on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. Sources said that contracts worth billions of rupees were mostly being given to the FWO. They said that an important meeting regarding the formal approval to award the contract was held at the NHA head office, in which the members of the committee expressed their concern over awarding the contract to the FWO.
