LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President and former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Sunday expressed satisfaction over the conduct of by-elections in the country. Talking to the media after casting his vote at Muslim Abad Polling Station in NA-69 of Gujrat, he said that the PTI government was functioning quite successfully. The government was established after passing through difficult circumstances, he said, adding those who are conspiring against the government would continue to do so. Rubbishing rumours that the opposition would remove the government constitutionally, he said that the incumbent government should be given the opportunity to deliver. “Imran Khan had no idea prior to coming into power that how much circumstances in the country had been worsened by the previous government.” To a question, Shujaat said that Shehbaz Sharif was imprisoned not due to Ashiana Housing Scheme but because of his oppressive attitude. “Shehbaz is facing the wrath of Almighty Allah due to Model Town tragedy. I strongly hope that the justice will soon be delivered to the families of martyrs of Model Town tragedy.” Meanwhile, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday said that excellent arrangements were put in place for holding the by-elections. Speaking to the media after casting his vote in Gujrat, he said that incarcerated PML-N president Shehbaz was facing divine wrath due to Model Town tragedy. To a question, he said that the circumstances would move towards betterment in the coming time. “Damage done to the country during the last ten years cannot be set right in just 60 days, he said, adding that the government should be given time so that it could move forward. Replying to another question, he hoped that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar would deliver. He maintained that those officers who were involved in Model Town tragedy should be changed so that impartial inquiry could take place. In response to a question about overseas Pakistanis, he said that casting of vote by expatriates in large number was a welcome development and granting them the right of vote to them was a good step of the Election Commission and an indication towards the change. Earlier, candidate from NA-69 Moonis Elahi, Ch Shafat Hussain, Rasikh Elahi, Muhammad Elahi and Hassan Elahi cast their votes in the Government Girls Primary School Pindi Tataar.
