Staff Report

CM orders removal of encroachments from city

Published on: February 7, 2017 4:15 AM

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed all civic bodies to ensure removal of encroachments from the city.

The officials of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Karachi Development Authority (KDA), cantonment boards, District Council and six District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) received the instructions in this regard.

Commissioner Karachi Ejaz Ahmad Khan has asked all deputy commissioners and heads of civic bodies to remove encroachments and submits details on a daily basis in this regard.

“Action will be taken against employees of civic bodies and police who were found involved in helping encroachers in city”, he warned.

This measure will help keep traffic flow smooth in the city besides facilitating pedestrians to move freely.

It is learnt that heads of all the civic bodies have directed their respective staff to start survey and complete homework for launching anti-encroachment.

Nazir Lakhani, the senior director of Anti Encroachment Cell, KMC, informed that a detailed report on Nullah encroachments would be put before the commission set up for the resolution of all civic problems in the city on the directives of Supreme Court.

The anti-encroachment drive would be launched after a detailed survey, he added.

“We are not provided with a deadline for this purpose but there are strict orders from the CM and the mayor for a clean up operation and we will use all resources to ensure the drive”, he informed.

Abdul Qadeer Mangi, the director of Estate and Enforcement, KDA, said that the engineering department has been asked to furnish a detailed report on encroachment within two days.
