Nisar Ahmed of Wapda wins Tour-de Galiyat Cycling Race

PESHAWAR: Nisar Ahmed of the Wapda clinched first position in the second stage of the Tour-de Galiyat Cycling Race oganised by the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association (KPCA) on Saturday.

Similarly, Muhammad Wazir of the Sui Southern Gas Pipeline Limited (SSGPL) and Najibullah of the Wapda stood second and third, respectively, in the cycling sports gala.

The second leg of the cycling race was held from Islamabad to Abbottabad, in which the cyclists from Afghanistan and Pakistan covered 144 kilometres distance.

Earlier, Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Akhtar Nawaz Ganjira as chief guest inaugurated the Tour-de Galiyat Cycling Race.

Secretary General Pakistan Cycling Federation Syed Azhar Ali Shah, KPCA President Nisar Ahmed, cyclists and officials of TCKP were present on the occasion.

Director General PSB Akhtar Nawaz Ganjira said at the inaugural ceremony that the board would extend every help to the Pakistan Cycling Federation to make the Olympic Games 2020 a success.

He said training camps would be arranged for the cyclists and players of other games to polish their talent and enliven playgrounds of the country.

Over 78 cyclists from Afghanistan and other teams of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab, Wapda, Pakistan Army, SSGC, Karachi, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), Pakistan Ordnance Factory Wah (POF) participated in the second leg of the race.

The first phase of the cycling gala held on Friday, in which the cyclists covered 178 km distance from Peshawar to Islamabad.

In the first stage of the Tour-de Galiyat Cycling Race, SSGPL’s Muhammad Rizwan, Wapda’sNajibullah and Nisar Ahmed had got first, second and third position, respectively

The cyclists would cover 32km distance from Abbottabad to Nathiagali where the activity will formally conclude with a closing ceremony today.
