LAHORE: The Annual Couples Golf Competition 2017 was held at the Royal Palm Club Golf Course over nine holes here Saturday. A total of 32 couples turned up to participate in this family-oriented golfing get together comprising of some very skilled golfing males and mostly non golfing wives whose knowledge of golf is limited to the stories that they hear from their male counterparts about their pursuits on the golf course involving powerful shots off the tees and how courageously they beat their opponents in weekend four ball matches. By joining their husbands at this annual golf competition, wives managed to get a close look at the actual potential of their life partners and in most cases wives went back a little disappointed with the ability of their males as they lost vital strokes with gay abandon by either hitting out of bounds shots or failing to reach the greens in regulation and at times finding the water by nervous and inaccurate hitting. The winner, however, turned out to be a teenager Damil Attaullah who had his sister Dania as his partner. Throughout the course of the nine he played like a champion and was well supported by his sister. Through a net score of 23 they emerged as the outright winners and set a course record in terms of the nine holes net score achieved. Some other couples who managed to play decently were Mr and Mrs Waqar Butt (net 26), Mr and Mrs Asim Tiwana (net 29), Mr Ahmed Buksh and daughter (29) and Mr and Mrs Max Babri (net 30). These couples showed cohesion and steady play but could not win. An international touch was added to the event by the presence of Mrs Max Babri, an Austrian and Mr and Mrs H Kim Koo Bong (Korean). The encouraging thing was that wives felt really happy up with the beautiful environment at the Royal Palm Golf Course and stated that they considered their husbands fortunate to be playing at Royal Palm. Many of them pledged to take up golf.
