LARKANA: The Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Government of Sindh, Dr. Muhammad Usman Chachar, takes notice of improper utilization of diet budget in some hospitals of the province. In a letter addressed to all the District Health Officers (DHOs) and Medical Superintendents (MSs) of the province, he wrote that while reviewing the expenditure incurred under various head of accounts of different hospitals of previous years, it has been observed that expenses on diet for inpatients at some hospitals are seen to be on higher side than the number of admitted patients. This disparity in numbers clearly shows that MSs are not making these expenses which appear to be pilfered. ACS also took notice of the hygienic standards of the hospitals in the Province. He said that the expenses incurred show buying of cleanliness material, but the current hygienic condition of the hospitals is far too miserable to accept, if any of the cleaning material was utilized. This discrepancy shows that resources have been pilfered from the administration. Dr. Chahchar warned that if found guility, head / incharge of health facility will be held responsible. He said, all concerned are directed to ensure that budget is properly utilized to keep the facilities in proper condition. Copies of this letter have also been sent to Director General, Health Services, Sindh, Hyderabad and Health Services Directors of all five divisions of the province for strict compliance. It must be mentioned that such notices are not anomaly to the health sector of Sindh neither is the disparity in the exaggerated expenditure incurred. But not a single action has yet been taken by any DHO or MS of the hospital. Published in Daily Times, August 8th 2018.
