The Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR) administration has failed to vacate government residences by retired and transferred employees. Sources privy to the development revealed that a large number of Municipal Corporation quarters are occupied by the employees who are either retired, transferred to any other station or by those who are not entitled to hold these residences. Sources said Sardar Tashfeen who was Town Municipal Officer in 2015 and was transferred to Pothohar Town in 2016, retired one and a half year ago but he is still living in the house of Municipal Corporation near Kali Tanki, Saidpur Road, Rawalpindi. Similarly, former assistant town officer Abdul Salam who was transferred to Attock Station two years ago, still illegally occupies the MCR quarter at Satellite Town, Rawalpindi. Sources said Ulfat Shahzad, who is currently serving as Municipal Corporation Denna chief executive officer is residing in a flat which is allegedly allotted to a clerk of MCR. A senior official wishing anonymity said, some quarters were illegally allotted to these officers who even had their own houses. According to the law, the employees have to submit affidavit while submitting application for the allotment of government residences, stating clearly that do not have their own homes. Sources said according to the law, grade 1 to 4 employees are eligible for one-room quarters, grade 5 to 11 employees are eligible for the government residence comprising of two rooms, while employees of grade 12 to 16 are eligible for four rooms quarter but some employees have availed flats of upper category for which they are not entitled. “Notices have been issued to all those officers who have occupied the residences illegally, some of them have even vacated the quarters. We will take action as per law against those who have not vacated the residences yet,” MCR Chief Executive Officer Shafqat Raza said, while talking exclusively to Daily Times. “I don’t require any notice from Municipal Corporation, I will vacate the house soon,” former Town Municipal officer Sardar Tashfeen said, also while talking exclusively to Daily Times.
