HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) district president Hanif Siddiqui on Tuesday termed the ousted premier Nawaz Sharif’s political struggle as ‘a war of survival of Pakistan.’
Reportedly, Siddiqui addressed a corner meeting to express PML-N’s support for an independent candidate for NA-227 Haji Farid Qureshi, the younger brother of a notable social activist and philanthropist Haji Ilyas Qureshi.
PML-N decided to favour Farid Qureshi after disqualification of PML-N candidate Sahebzada Shabbir Ansari on the basis of his bank account being inoperative.
Siddiqui asserted that despite of brutal repression and injustice against PML-N, the party still chose to participate in the electoral process in a bid to save democracy.
“String-pullers are trying to achieve an election result of their choice, but the result may lead the country towards chaos,” he said, adding that the anti-democratic forces made a grave mistake by trying to suppress the voice of Nawaz Sharif, and torturing him in jail.
He termed ‘sending PML-N candidates in jails’ as a form of pre-poll rigging.
Meanwhile, he urged the general public of Hyderabad to cast their votes in favour of Farid Qureshi for NA-227 (Hyderabad-III) and Kaleem Sheikh for PS-65 (Latifabad).
Later, PML-N senior vice-president Abdul Waheed Inqilabi and Farid Qureshi also addressed the public meeting.
