Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR) Chief Officer Shafqat Raza has called explanation from the corporation’s driver, who was slapped by the officer for allegedly not attending the office on the visit of the commissioner. Municipal Officer Regulation (MOR) Shahzad Naveed Gohar first stopped driver Irshad Khan’s salary and then slapped him when he asked for a reason. The explanation letter issued on July 4 says that the MCR Rawalpindi chief officer stated that the MOR reported that Irshad Khan s/o Abdul Qayyum was directed by the MOR to attend the office on June 28, 2018 at 7am due to the visit of commissioner and deputy commissioner. But he did not attend the office on time which shows his negligence of duty. Khan is directed to explain his position within three working days after the receipt of the explanation letter. While talking exclusively to Daily Times, Khan said that he did not receive any order in any form from the office on that day to attend the office on June 28 at 7am. “I frequently performed my duties even at his home,” he said, adding that the MOR stopped his salary without any reason and when he went to his office to inquire, the MOR slapped him. The labour union leader, requesting anonymity said, the explanation called by the chief officer on bases of the report of MOR who is accused in this matter shows that the chief officer is supporting him. The chief officer assured them that he will initiate an inquiry. In the union meeting, it was decided to wait a few more days for initiating an independent inquiry. If the chief officer failed, employees of the corporation will start the protest demonstration again and will lock the office, said senior office bearers of the union.
