RAWALPINDI: Captain (R) Muhammad Safdar, former premier Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law and Maryam’s husband— appeared at a party rally in Rawalpindi on Sunday. He was on wanted list of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) since the Avenfield properties reference verdict. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) local leaders, Senator Chaudhry Tanveer and Malik Shakeel Awan, were leading a party rally on Liaquat Road when Safdar appeared from his car. Safdar said that he is here to surrender among his supporters and time has come to decide which path the country is suppose to take. NAB Deputy Director Chaudhry Asghar is leading a team of NAB officials and is present at Teeli Mohallah, where the rally is expected to reach shortly. So that Safdar be arrested and taken to its office in Islamabad from where he would be transferred to Adiala Jail. Punjab police has also been consulted to assist NAB in nabbing Safdar. Earlier today, Safdar had announced that he will surrender today, in an audio message.He stated, “I had decided earlier to surrender in Tarnol(Mansehra), but as per party’s decision I will surrender now from another city. Surrendering is an act of honor and I respect my party’s decision”. Maryam’s husband and Nawaz’s son-in-law stated in an audio message released earlier. He further stated that he is an ordinary worker and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) will sweep the upcoming elections from Hazara division. On Friday, accountability court sentenced him one-year behind the bars due to his involvement in Avenfield reference case. Along with that his wife Maryam Nawaz,and father-in-law, the former ex-premier of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, were also sentenced eight and eleven years in jail, with fine 8-million and 2-million pounds, respectively. It should be noted that earlier National Accountability Bureau (NAB) stationed its teams in Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur, while his name was put on exit control list by the court to bar him from traveling out of the country.
