Beauty standards should be refined globally: Priyanka Chopra

Published on: June 30, 2018 11:30 AM

B-town star Priyanks Chopra is globally appreciated for her acting skills and beauty. She has not only managed to take over the screens in Bollywood cinema, but has also earned a lot of appreciation in Hollywood. She was crowned miss India pageant in 2000.

Priyanks shared her views regarding beauty standards, while appearing on the cover of Allure magazine. She also talked about the struggles women face when they are a part of an entertainment industry.

Talking about her early life, Priyanka said that Beauty Pageant was not her goal.  “I wanted to be an engineer,” Chopra said. She also told that her mother sent her photos to the beauty pageant committee which made her a part of it.

The Quantico star said, “It’s wrong that women are made to believe that it’s okay to be objectified in order to succeed.”

She further said that it’s not only pageants who promote beauty standards but the entertainment industry, itself, is involved in the whole process.

Chopra said that she loves dressing up and she thinks self-care should be of utmost importance. “As women we don’t prioritize ourselves enough. I’m not saying become vain and narcissistic but sometimes, you just need a moment,” said Priyanka. She also said that women should never be judged for dressing up for themselves. Chopra is also a strong supporter of notion of freedom of choice for women.

Chopra is just like any other modern day girl who wants to bring change in the society. She has put in a lot of efforts in issues which have an impact on the lives of women which has led her to become a part of UNICEF.

She said that the world needs to have a different perception of beauty. “We see women of all sizes and colour, modelling, acting and using their strength to reach a goal. However, it’s the mindset of society that needs to change. People need to realize that a plus-size or a woman of colour should not be a ‘check in the box’,” said Chopra.

She is not only a female activist but she has also helped the Syrian refugees and visited the Rohingya Muslims this year. She has string faith in the famous saying ‘Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder’ and thinks that the perception of beauty standards should be refined globally.

Other than Quantico, Chopra was also starred in the Hollywood movie Baywatch along with Dwayne Johnson and Zack Efron.
