LAHORE: Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar on Friday shared his experiences of his first Test in 1989, that was against Pakistan in Karachi.
Speaking to Indian Express, Tendulkar said that he thought that his first Test would be his last when he faced Pakistani pacers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis bowling at full throttle from both ends.
“First innings of my life, in Karachi, I thought it would be my first and last innings,” said Tendulkar. “In the first match, I had no idea. Waqar (Younis) bowling from one end and Wasim (Akram) going full-throttle from the other. And they had just started reverse-ball. To go there and play suddenly, I was completely out of place,” he added.
He, however, continued that he discussed his experience with veterans in the dressing room and that they advised him to give more respect to “arguably two of the very best bowlers of all time.”
In the second innings of the match, Tendulkar added, he scored 59 runs, which were the most crucial of his life. “I went back to the dressing room after the innings and said to myself: you have done it,” he said.
