‘We are committed to promotoe gender sensitive policing’

LAHORE: The formulation of Gender Responsive Strategy of National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) is illustration of our commitment to the vision of promoting gender sensitive policing.

This was said by Deputy Inspector General Ahmad Arsalan Malik while speaking at a Gender Awareness Seminar at Zonal Office, Babu Sabu on Saturday.

The seminar was titled Gender Equality & Sensitisation at Workplace. The guest speakers of the seminar were Punjab University Law College Principal Dr Shazia Qureshi, Kashf Foundation Senior Manager Zainab Saeed, and a private TV channel’s executive produder Shahnila Farhan.

Senior Superintendent Police Motorway Kamran Adil and large number of officials/officers were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Ahmad Arsalan Malik said in the Gender Strategy of NH&MP, priorities including improved representation of women in police, developed capacities and competencies, enhanced roles, positioning and visibility, cultivating gender sensitive work environment, assimilating gender learning into police training and enriching policing services with equality perspectives are present.

The main objective of the seminar was to sensitise female police officers as well their male counterparts about awareness of gender equality at workplace, he further added.

Dr Shazia Qureshi also elaborated the positive role of women at work place with reference to international treaties and constitutions.

She also focused need of awareness about gender responsiveness at workplace.

Zainab Saeed said gender equality is associated with improved national productivity and economic growth, increased organisational performance and enhanced department reputation. She also particularized the mission of Kashf Foundation as serving all with dignity by providing quality and cost effective microfinance services to low income households that alleviate poverty and enable women to become active agents of social and economic change, through building alliances, promoting linkages and developing entrepreneurship.

Shahnila Farhan also highlighted the importance of gender equality at workplace. She also shared their professional and personal experiences officers regarding gender issues while rendering professional endeavors. This useful seminar was highly acknowledging both guest speakers as well female officers. In the end question and answer session was conducted along with group photos. The guest speakers also planted trees in the lawn of zonal office.
