2000 disabled people await CNICs from NADRA
Over 2000 deaf and dumb people of five districts of Larkana have not been issued Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) by NADRA as they must undergo a medical test that is only available in Karachi or Nawabshah.
Larkana Deaf and Dumb Association leaders including Fayaz Khuhro, Punhal Sangi, Khalil Abbasi, Niaz Kalhoro, along with disabled people, held a protest at Jinnah Bagh on Thursday.
They said that the disabled people have been denied their fundamental right and they would not be able to cast their votes in the upcoming general elections.
They claimed that most of them had graduate and postgraduate qualifications but they could not be hired as CNICs were required for recruitment.
Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) is in Larkana but it lacks ‘Behria’ test facility which is required by NADRA to issue disabled people their CNICs. The test confirms whether a person is suffering from disability or not.
While talking to media, they said that foreigners were being issued CNICs but citizens are denied their fundamental right. They urged MPAs Nusrat Shar Abbasi, Mahtab Akbar Rashdi and Shaharyar Mahar to discuss the issue in Sindh Assembly. They demanded to provide a ‘Behria’ facility at CMCH.
