RAWALPINDI: The shopkeepers of city and Cantt areas have increased the price of atta (wheat flour) by up to Rs 10 per kilogram due to negligence and lack of proper checking by the Price Control Committees (PCC). According to media reports, the shop keepers have scaled up prices of a 20 kilo flour bag by Rs 75 to 100 and Chakki flour by Rs 200. Some shop keepers are selling the open flour at the rate of Rs 46 per kilogram in the market. The district administration Rawalpindi had issued a new rate list according to which the ex mill rate of a 20 kilo bag was fixed at Rs 750 and the retail price at Rs 765 per 20 kilogram. Due to lack of check and balance from the Price Control Committees the shopkeepers in the areas of city and Cantt including Dhok Chaudrian, Azizabad, Mughalabad Road, Tench Bhatta, Sajid Bukhari Road, 22 No Chungi, Chak Jalal-udeen, Garja Road, Chakri Road, Qasim Market, Dhook Hassu, Saddar, Chak Madad Khan, People’s Colony, Bakra Mandi, Banni and others have increased the prices of flour on their own. The District Food Controller, Muhammad Ijaz, said that the Food Department sets the price of flour and the PCCs ensure its implementation. On the other hand the price control magistrate, Ahmad Hasan Ranjha, said that strict action would be taken against those found involved in charging the ‘atta’ rate beyond the government control rate. The citizens can contact with them in case of any complaint. Fake tea: The Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) anti corruption unit staff raided a tea store of Narankari Bazaar Rawalpindi and apprehended the owner of a store for selling substandard and fake tea under the famous brand names of Islamabad Tea and Tapal Tea. Muhammad Majeed, from Islamabad Tea and Tapal Tea filed an application to the deputy director of the FIA anti-corruption unit that fake and substandard tea was being sold in the market under the names of famous brands in Rawalpindi. A team of the anti-corruption unit headed by Inspector Raja Wajid conducted a raid on Kashmir Tea Store of Narankari Bazaar where samples of tea were tested by company experts which were declared as fake. Officials sealed the whole stock and took the owner into its custody, registered a case against him and started an investigation. Computer Science: The Federal Board Of Intermediate and Secondary Education Islamabad has approved a new subject of computer science for SSC (Secondary school certificate)9th and 10th (matric) for the coming session of 2017. The implementation of computer science for grade 9th is due to keeping view the changing text in 2009. In 9th grade computer science subject topics like, Basic Computer, Initial Operating System, Office Auto Mission, Data Communication, Computer Network and Computer Security & Ethics are included. The notification scheme has been sent to the DGFDE, Director Education, Secretary NBF and other administrative authorities. Water supply: The Punjab government has approved a grant amounting to Rs25 million for bringing improvement in the water supply to the residents of Cantt area of Rawalpindi. A state of the art machinery will be purchased out of this grant to ensure the smooth supply of water to the citizens in the cantonment areas. Member Board Arshad Mahmood said that the Chief Minister Punjab was informed about the water problems in Rawalpindi Cantt area. The Punjab government assured to address this problem at the earliest, therefore, it approved a grant of Rs 25 million to resolve the water problems in cantonment area.
