ISLAMABAD: Accountability court on Thursday granted exemption to former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz from appearance in Avenfield reference case proceedings owing to bad weather. Justice Mohammad Bahsir headed the proceedings granting one-day exemption to Sharif and daughter considering their absence from the court due to unfavourable weather. However, Captain (r) Safdar appeared before the court. Defence lawyer Khawjaa Haris questioned key witness, head of panama papers joint investigation team (JIT) in Panama Papers case, Wajid Zia regarding the person who had changed Sharif’s salary on documents from 100,000 dirham. Zia responded that he wasn’t aware of the person as the name and designation of the person was not on record. Haris argued that the JIT report had said that two members received documents of FZE Company, to which Zia responded that their details were mentioned in paragraph 7 of Volume 1. Earlier, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz had demanded live coverage of the case proceedings so that the truth was made public. Nawaz had said that the 220 million owners of Pakistan, its people should not allow anyone’s monopoly or let injustice prevail. Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif along with daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were charged in Avenfield properties reference case (London) in September last year. Recording of the key witness’s statement was completed on March 27.
