LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday said that the bureau would continue performing its duties in accordance with the law by upholding transparency and merit despite adverse circumstances.
In response to Punjab bureaucracy’s criticism of former DG LDA Ahad Chema’s arrest, NAB said that threats, protests and browbeating can not stop the accountability bureau from performing its legal obligations.
Cheema has been apprehended as per law on the basis of solid evidence against him and a complete report of the circumstances would be presented after expiry of remand in accountability court, said NAB.
The bureau further stated that despite various accusations, NAB would not reply to the critics as the matter is sub judice. However, NAB assured that they will continue to work without any discrimination.
It was added that NAB is totally an apolitical institution having no affiliation with any political party or group and that the first and last affiliation of NAB is with the people of Pakistan and the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
NAB on Wednesday arrested former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General for alleged irregularities in the Ashiana housing scheme.
Ahad Cheema, who is now serving as chief executive of the Punjab Power Company, was arrested from his office located in Gulberg area.
