LAHORE: A petition requesting ban on Bollywood movie Padmaavat was submitted in Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday. The movie portrays the role of Muslims in the Sub-Continent in negative light and that it has distorted historic facts, said the petition. The petition also mentioned that Padmavat has presented Alauddin Khilji, second ruler of the Sub-continent’s Khilji dynasty and the antagonist of the movie, negatively, while the actual reality is different. The petitioner also said that the film violates Section 6 of the Motion Pictures Ordinance, 1979. According to the ordinance: “A film shall not be certified for public exhibition; if, in the opinion of the Board, the film or any part thereof is prejudicial to the glory of Islam or the integrity, security or defence of Pakistan or any part thereof, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality or amounts to the com*mission of, or incitement to, an offence.” The petitioner added that the movie has deeply affected his children, since they had heard a completely different story the film claims to revolve around, and therefore, the petitioner requested LHC to ban screening and distribution of the film.
