Published on: February 1, 2018 5:11 AM

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee member and former Punjab governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Wednesday formally announced to participate in the upcoming Senate election from Punjab. According to declaration issued by Former Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Wednesday, said his party was popular political and democratic party of country as Imran Khan is the only hope of change the system here. He said that contesting the Senate election is his party’s political, democratic and constitutional right so the members of provincial assembly of Punjab who have democratic mind would support him on the polling day. Sarwar said that his party believed in democratic principles and continuity of democracy and contesting senate elections with this approach and he would also fulfill the responsibility awarded to him to contest the elections by the party leadership. Former governor also expressed a hope that not only the PTI legislators sitting in the Punjab Assembly, but some other others democratic minded conscientious members would also support him during the Senate Elections and hopefully they would also cast their vote in his favour to succeed him. He also confirmed that there would be profound public campaign on Senate Elections. Pertinent to mention here that Senate Elections are scheduled to hold on March 3 and Punjab Assembly will elect 12 senators as representatives of the province in the upper house from Punjab in which seven candidates would be elected on general seats, two candidates on technocrat seats, two on reserved seats for women in the senate and one for on the reserved seat for minorities. it is worth mentioning that other political parties sitting in the Punjab Assembly especially, the ruling Nawaz League, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Pakistan Muslim league Quaid (PML-Q) have called applications from their willing candidates but yet to finalize the names of the contesters.
