The brother of a teenage girl in Quetta on Monday confessed to her rape and murder during initial investigation. The 13-year-old was found unconscious in Killi Ismail area of Balochistan. Initial medical examination report had confirmed that she was raped before being strangled to death. Twitter users, including journalists and activists, expressed shock and anger at the horrific incident. Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti announced that the arrested accused is the victim’s brother, and tweeted: “I painfully announce that we have arrested the accused, which unfortunately is her brother. His blood samples and other forensics are being done. #Quetta” Analyst Marvi Sirmed said, “In Quetta s Kili Ismail area, a 13 years old girl child found dead at her home after being raped. Question mark for those who were arguing that Kasur’s Zainab got killed coz she was roaming in streets unattended. Kids unsafe at their homes.” Singer and social activist Shehzad Roy? tweeted, “This is a nation where if you go to a psychiatrist you are labeled as Pagal. We all need to see a psychiatrist.Police can’t resolve this issue.This is a social illness,needs media campaign,curriculum&school reforms and breaking communication barriers” Journalist Shezad Baloch? said, “13 years old Girl Tayaba was raped and later found strangulated in Killi Ismail area of #Quetta #Pakistan. Balochistan doesnt have forensic department & equipment for investigating DNA like Lahore. So the case will remain mystery like many others?” Journalist Adnan Aamir? said, “Reportedly a 13 year old girl has been raped and killed in Killing Ismail area of #Quetta. This is a test case for new CM #Balochistan.” Activist Dr Fouzia Hameed? tweeted, “Very sad incidence – A Girl of 13 years in #Quetta – another victim of death after #rape in her own home. Wondering where is Society heading towards?.
