RAWALPINDI: The District Education Registration Authority (DERA), has accorded approval to open 53 new private schools, besides deciding to launch a crackdown against non-registered private educational institutions in Rawalpindi. The approval was given at a meeting of DERA, held here under the Chief Executive Officer, Qazi Zahoorul Haq. It was also decided at the meeting that the institutions which had not been registered be registered after imposing a minor penalty on them. An operation will be launched against non -registered institutions and they will be sealed. Water: Due to a fault in the Sang Jani filtration plant of the Khanpur Dam Water Supply Project, the water supply to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad has been reduced. Sources said that during this week, the daily water supply to Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Cantt areas had been reduced by 60pc. However, repair work on the filtration plant is underway and after the repairing, the routine water supply will be restored to the respective city areas. The Cantonment Board Rawalpindi spokesperson, Qaisar Mehmood, said that repair work on the Sang Jani Filtration Plant had been started following the detection of the fault. However, he added, one week’s time limit would be required for normal water supply.
