LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan met Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Tuesday.
The meeting was held at Qadri’s residence in Lahore.
Both the leaders discussed important issues including Model Town Inquiry Commission report and future course of action regarding possible movement against the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
They also exchanged their views on the All Parties Conference (APC), called by PAT chief on December 28.
Addressing a press conference along with Qadri after the meeting, Imran said he visited Qadri to reassure his full support for PAT in its struggle to seek justice for the victims of the Model Town tragedy, even if “Qadri takes to roads”.
“Whatever decision Qadri takes, we will stand alongside him,” said Imran, adding that the Model Town incident concerns all Pakistanis.
Moreover, he once again criticised PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif describing him as a “mafia” who use state institutions for his personal interests.
Commenting on the Nawaz’s call for a “movement against judiciary”, Imran said Nawaz can never launch any movement against the judiciary.
He further accused Punjab Police of working for the Sharif family.
Qadri welcomes Imran
During the press conference, Qadri once again welcomed the support offered by the PTI chief saying Imran has stood by him and fought the model town incident case as his own.
He said that the 2014 Islamabad sit-in was a “clear evidence of the strong connection between both parties”.
Qadri said Justice Baqir Najfi’s report held Shehbaz Sharif responsible 0f the Model Town tragedy, adding Shehbaz has to go now.
Army’s help is not required in the case, he added.
Referring to the APC called by him on December 28, Qadri said PAT would announce its future course of action after consultation with other parties.
Qadri demands Shehbaz, Rana Sanaullah to step down
Qadri has previously demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah step down from their positions by December 31, in the wake of the Model Town inquiry report.
After the release of the Model Town Inquiry Commission report, several key politicians, including Pakistan Peoples Party(PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Pak Sarzameen Party(PSP) Chief Mustafa Kamal, have thrown their weight behind the Qadri’s demand.
