KARACHI: At least one person was killed and eight injured when a speedy truck crushed cars near the Liaquatabad’s Dakkhana on Thursday, rescue sources said.

According to the police, the unfortunate accident occurred due to truck’s break fail. The authorities have arrested the truck driver.

The deceased and injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment respectively.

Separately, on November 10, at least one person was killed and three others injured in a traffic incident near the city’s Mosamyat area, on University Road, rescue officers disclosed.

The accident occurred when two cars collided with each other at high speed – near a U-turn near Mosamyat – in an attempt to save the female pedestrian but ended up hitting and killing her anyway.

Meanwhile, two men were shot and injured in armed attack over domestic dispute in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the city on Thursday.

According to rescue sources, a 26-year-old Ismail, son of Jameel and Talha, son of Kaleem, aged 26, were shot at over personal dispute in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, 13/D area. As a result, they suffered serious bullet injuries.

The injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for treatment.

Separately, police recovered a sizeable cache of arms and ammunition during a raid in Karachi early Thursday, officials said.

The law enforcers, together with intelligence personnel, raided a shop in Orangi Town’s Sector L-12, SP Abid Baloch said. The shop had been lying closed for a year.

Baloch said police recovered three Kalashnikovs, handguns and hundreds of live rounds hidden inside the shop. Police said they also found flags of a political party inside the shop.

Officials say they suspect the arms have been used in various terror activities and will get their forensic test conducted.
