RAWALPINDI: The government has decided to resume work on a bulk water supply project, aimed at supplying water to Murree from River Jhelum and later to Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The Punjab Public Health Engineering Department has been assigned the responsibility for completing the project. A total of Rs 7 billion will be spent on the completion of the project. Once completed, the project will meet water requirements of Murree, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The project had been launched by the Punjab government in 2002, but it could not be completed within five years. Work will now be carried out on this project by Public Health Engineering, including carrying out feasibility studies and designing the project. The project has been pending for the last 10 years due to which cost of construction has increased. The government has now decided to complete it on a priority basis.
