
MOGADISHU: A suicide bomber who had disguised himself as a police officer by wearing proper police uniform detonated himself on Thursday inside the police training camp based in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 police officers, officials said.
A Somalian Police spokesman Major Mohamed Hussein said the attacker who had explosives strapped to his whole body, infiltrated the General Kahiye Police Training Academy in the Somalian capital and exploded himself during a police parade.
Amin Ambulances Director Abdikadir Abdirahman revealed that “About 13 dead bodies have been shifted by us from the Police facility and more than 15 injured people were also carried out from the General Kahiye Police Training Academy.”
Militant Islamist group al Shabaab took responsibility for the brutal attack.
al Shabaabs military operations spokesman Abdiasis Abu Musab said that “We will give details of casualties later”
The militant group carries out persistent attacks in the Somalian capital and other parts of the country.
al Shabaab is fighting against United Nations backed government authorities and its African Union alliance in its bid to end the weak administration and impose its own stiff interpretation of Islam in the region.
