SHIKARPUR: Bado Police have foiled an attempt of early age marriage and recovered an underaged bride from village Khan Muhammad Kharoos, in the limits of above mentioned police station, some 50 kilometers away from here, on Wednesday.
Imtiaz Ahmed Khuhawar, the SHO Bado Police Station, told this reporter that following intelligence reports police have conducted a raid and recovered an underage bride named Sana, 14, daughter of Gul Hassan Jatoi, who was sitting in “Wanwaah”, a tradition of Sindh in which the bride sits at least three days in a room before her marriage, and moved her to the Womens Complaint Cell Shikarpur to appear her before the honorable court for further necessary action.
After receiving the information of the early age marriage attempt, Naveed Ahmed Phulpoto, child protection unit officer Shikarpur, along with his team rushed to the police station and ensured them of legal support. Irshad Ahmed Mangi, WHC at Bado Police Station, informed that the recovered girl has stated before the honorable court for protection and expressed her will to live with her maternal-uncle named Imadad Ali later she was handed over to her maternal uncle according to her will on the directives of the honorable court of Garhi Yasin.
Mr Mangi further quoted her that her uncles named Ali Dost and Gul Bahar Jatoi wanted to marry her off with Imran Ali, 20, by caste Kharoos, resident of Madeji town, without her consent.
