ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court (SC) against the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision to acquit former minister of religious affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Hajj Director General Rao Shakeel Ahmad and Ministry of Religious Affairs’ former joint secretary Aftabul Islam Rao in the Hajj corruption case. In the appeal plea filed in the SC on Friday, the FIA director general (DG) stated that the IHC decision was not based on facts. He said that the high court had not reviewed the complete evidence, and decision was made keeping in view just one side of the case. The prosecution was holding concrete evidence against the accused persons, he claimed. The witnesses in the case had recorded evidence directly against the accused, Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Rao Shakil Ahmad and Aftabul Islam. The FIA DG requested the apex court to set aside the high court’s March 20 decision in respect of these accused and uphold the punishment awarded to them by the trial court.
