Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain on Wednesday emphasized that Pakistan seeks a long-term partnership that goes beyond infrastructure development and includes technology transfer, local manufacturing, capacity building, research collaboration, and employment generation.
The minister chaired a high-level meeting with a delegation of FAMSUN Group, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Jack Chen, to discuss avenues for strengthening cooperation in agricultural modernization, grain storage, technology transfer, and investment in Pakistan’s agri-food sector. Welcoming the delegation, the Federal Minister said Pakistan greatly values its longstanding friendship with China and appreciates the confidence shown by leading Chinese companies in Pakistan’s economic and agricultural potential.
He stated that cooperation between Pakistan and China has entered a new phase, with increasing emphasis on agricultural development, industrial collaboration, technology transfer, innovation, and value addition.
Rana Tanveer Hussain appreciated FAMSUN’s contribution to Pakistan’s agri-food sector over the past two decades, acknowledging the company’s role in supporting the modernization of feed milling, grain handling, and food processing industries. He encouraged the company to further expand its engagement in Pakistan through long-term investment and strategic partnerships. The minister highlighted the urgent need to strengthen Pakistan’s grain storage infrastructure and invited FAMSUN to establish a modern chain of high-tech silos across the country.
He said improved scientific storage facilities would help reduce post-harvest losses, enhance food security, improve supply chain efficiency, and ensure the safe preservation of agricultural commodities. He encouraged the company to explore opportunities for establishing manufacturing and assembly facilities in Pakistan for advanced agricultural machinery and equipment.
During the meeting, both sides discussed cooperation in several priority areas, including the development of modern grain storage systems, expansion of agri-processing infrastructure, modernization of the livestock feed industry, and the introduction of advanced agricultural technologies to improve productivity and efficiency. The proposal to establish a pilot demonstration silo at the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) was also discussed. The minister said such a facility could serve as a model for showcasing modern grain storage technologies, supporting research activities, and providing practical training to professionals and researchers. Rana Tanveer Hussain underscored the importance of human resource development and stressed the need to enhance training opportunities for Pakistani scientists, researchers, technicians, and agricultural graduates. He noted that greater academic and technical cooperation with Chinese institutions would contribute significantly to strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural research and innovation capacity. The minister also requested FAMSUN to send a technical team to visit PARC to assess its existing infrastructure and identify areas where future cooperation could further strengthen agricultural research and technological development.
The FAMSUN delegation expressed its appreciation for the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to agricultural modernization and investment facilitation. The delegation shared the company’s experience in intelligent agriculture, modern grain storage, and agricultural technologies implemented in various countries, and expressed its willingness to work closely with Pakistan in areas of mutual interest. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to develop practical proposals for future cooperation, with a shared focus on innovation, technology transfer, research collaboration, capacity building, and sustainable agricultural development. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the strong Pakistan-China partnership and a shared commitment to translating the discussions into concrete initiatives that will contribute to the modernization of Pakistan’s agriculture and strengthen food security.
