IG directs expansion of outreach programmes to support victims of gender-based crimes

Punjab Police Tahaffuz Marakaz continue to provide essential services to vulnerable and marginalized segments of society. Punjab Police spokesperson, while sharing the details, said that more than 48,000 individuals received assistance at Tahaffuz Marakaz across Punjab, including Lahore, during the current year. The beneficiaries included 23,522 women, 19,223 children, and 5,369 transgender persons.

Punjab Police spokesperson further said that 3,554 individuals were assisted at Tahaffuz Marakaz in the provincial capital, Lahore, including 2,385 children, 960 women, and 209 transgender persons. A total of 39 Tahaffuz Marakaz are functioning across Punjab, while three Tahaffuz Marakaz are operational in Lahore, providing daily assistance to vulnerable and marginalized individuals.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem said that Tahaffuz Marakaz serve as an important platform for the support and rehabilitation of transgender persons and other vulnerable segments of society. He added that Transgender Victim Support Officers are providing priority social and legal protection to members of their community.

IG Punjab directed that outreach programs aimed at assisting victims of gender-based crimes, social vulnerability, exploitation, and violence should be further accelerated. He emphasized that immediate relief must be provided to victims facing issues related to transgender persons, women, and children. IG Punjab further said that the difficulties faced by underprivileged and vulnerable communities should be addressed through close coordination with allied institutions and welfare organizations.
