Balochistan CM’s assurances end Hanna Urak protest

Quetta protesters block Airport Road after deadly Hanna Urak clash kills four

The protest staged after the deadly terrorist attack in Hanna Urak, Balochistan, came to an end after Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti personally met with demonstrators and assured them that their demands would be addressed. The sit-in had been continuing on Airport Road, where victims’ families and local residents were demanding justice, accountability, and stronger security measures.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Bugti listened to the concerns of the protesters and acknowledged their grievances. He said that if there had been any shortcomings on the government’s part, they would be accepted and rectified. He added that important decisions had already been made in consultation with the prime minister and the field marshal, and pledged to ensure their implementation as chief minister.

Bugti announced a relief package for the families of those killed in the attack, including financial compensation, government employment opportunities for eligible family members, and educational support for the children of the victims. He also vowed that those attempting to destabilize the province or malign the state through acts of terrorism would be dealt with firmly under the law.

The terrorist attack in Hanna Urak on July 5 claimed the lives of four people, while 11 others remain missing. The incident sparked widespread anger among residents, leading to protests demanding swift action against those responsible and improved security in vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers for 14 police personnel who were martyred in the Mangi Dam attack were offered with full state honours. Their families continued a separate sit-in at Quetta’s Coal Phattak, seeking justice and stronger action against militant groups.

In Ziarat, affected families also maintained their protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s Complex for a fourth consecutive day, urging authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. The recent wave of attacks across Balochistan has renewed concerns over the province’s security situation, with the government facing increasing pressure to strengthen counterterrorism efforts and provide relief to the families affected by the violence.
