Erdogan praises Trump’s Iran peace efforts

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised US President Donald Trump’s commitment to pursuing peace with Iran while calling for greater unity among NATO allies. He also urged European members to assume more responsibility for the alliance’s collective defence. Erdogan’s remarks come as regional tensions remain high following recent military exchanges involving Iran.

Addressing NATO leaders in Ankara, Erdogan described Trump’s determined approach toward peace with Iran as encouraging. He stressed that diplomatic efforts remain essential to preventing further escalation in the Middle East. The Turkish president also emphasized that dialogue and cooperation are critical to maintaining regional stability during a period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty.

Erdogan said European allies should contribute more to NATO’s defence responsibilities while preserving alliance unity. He reiterated Turkey’s commitment to strengthening the alliance and enhancing collective security. The Turkish leader also thanked the United States, Spain, Germany, and Italy for providing additional air defence support to Turkey during the recent Iran conflict.

The Turkish president further called on NATO members to remain united against all forms of terrorism. He said closer cooperation among allies is necessary to address evolving security threats and ensure lasting regional stability. Erdogan stressed that solidarity within the alliance should remain a top priority despite ongoing international challenges.

His remarks were delivered as NATO leaders gathered in Ankara to discuss defence spending, regional security, and the evolving situation in the Middle East. The summit is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among allies while addressing growing geopolitical and security challenges.
