Government talks have made no progress despite Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s invitation for dialogue, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar said, adding that party founder Imran Khan has still not been allowed to meet visitors.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar said 36 weeks had passed without a meeting with Imran Khan. He claimed that even on the scheduled visitation day, no one was permitted to meet the PTI founder, raising concerns within the party.
Gohar said meeting Imran Khan was essential to understand his current position and receive guidance on the party’s future strategy. He also noted that Khan’s family has requested permission for his three sisters to meet him.
Referring to government talks, Gohar said the prime minister had invited PTI for dialogue on the floor of the National Assembly, but there had been no meaningful progress. He added that while the government speaks about negotiations, PTI members are simultaneously being handed prison sentences.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja also said the party was facing internal uncertainty because its leadership had been unable to meet Imran Khan. He said the leadership was under pressure and waiting for directions from the party founder before making key political decisions.
