PPP and JUI-F forge electoral alliance in AJK

Published on: June 29, 2026 2:10 AM

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have announced a political alliance in Azad Kashmir, stating that they will contest the elections together across the region and support each other’s candidates in different constituencies. The President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Azad Kashmir, Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside Maulana Saeed Yousaf, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Azad Kashmir, said: “Today is a historic day in the politics of Azad Kashmir. The Pakistan Peoples Party is entering into a political alliance with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in Azad Kashmir, and together we will contest the elections across the state.” Chaudhry Yasin said that Maulana Saeed Yousaf will be their joint candidate from LA-14 Dheerkot and LA-23. The head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Azad Kashmir, Maulana Saeed Yousaf, said that this is the first time in Azad Kashmir’s history that JUI and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have formed a political alliance. He explained that in these two constituencies, the PPP will support JUI by withdrawing its candidates’ nomination papers. In return, JUI candidates in the remaining constituencies will campaign in support of PPP candidates. He added that JUI would fully back the PPP’s candidates. Maulana Saeed Yousaf said: “We believe this alliance will be beneficial for the state. PPP candidate Nabeela Ayub has decided to withdraw in favor of JUI. I am grateful to Bilawal Bhutto, the Pakistan Peoples Party, and their candidates who have stepped aside to make this alliance possible.”
