GCU launches first public university internship programme

Published on: June 29, 2026 12:39 AM

The Government College University (GCU) Lahore has launched its first-ever summer internship programme, opening more than 100 on-campus training slots for undergraduate students nationwide.

The move makes GCU the first public sector university in Pakistan to offer a large-scale institutional internship framework for BS students.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry stated that the initiative is designed to integrate talented youth directly into the university’s governance, research, and administrative operations.

He emphasised that the program sets a new benchmark in higher education by developing competent and practical leaders for Pakistan’s future.

The Vice Chancellor added that these placements will also fulfill the mandatory training requirements under the HEC Undergraduate Policy 2023.

According to a university official, the six-to-eight-week program will run through July and August. Selected interns will commit to a five-day work week at either the GCU Main Campus or the Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) Campus.

The hands-on training spans critical institutional areas, including strategic planning, accadmic teaching, financial management, information technology, and quality assurance.

The program is open to undergraduate students from GCU and all HEC-recognized institutions who have successfully completed their BS fourth semester with good academic standing.

Students currently awaiting their results are also eligible to apply. The university administration confirmed that it is not charging any application or training fees for the program.

Participants will receive official certificates upon successful completion and a positive supervisor evaluation.

The official said that internship applications must be submitted online through the university portal by July 6, 2026.
