Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed US-Iran negotiations and regional developments during a telephone conversation. Both sides stressed the importance of continued diplomacy to reach a final agreement. The talks reflected ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and strengthen regional stability.
According to statements from Tehran and Cairo, the ministers reviewed recent political and security developments across the Middle East. Araghchi said the discussion also focused on diplomatic engagement with the United States. He described the negotiations as part of broader efforts to preserve peace and stability in the region.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said Abdelatty emphasised the need for serious and good-faith negotiations between Washington and Tehran. He said a final agreement should address the interests and concerns of all parties involved. The Egyptian minister added that successful diplomacy would contribute to regional and international security.
Abdelatty also called for broader regional dialogue to address shared security concerns. He said discussions should respect international law, the UN Charter, and the principles of good-neighbourly relations. Egypt maintained that cooperation among regional states remains essential for achieving lasting stability.
The phone call followed the June 18 memorandum of understanding signed by Iran and the United States. The agreement included reopening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping after its closure disrupted global energy markets. Both countries continue negotiations to reach a comprehensive and lasting settlement.
