IED blast kills one in Ormara; five abductees recovered

Published on: June 26, 2026 9:37 AM

A man was killed after an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to a motorcycle exploded in the coastal town of Ormara in Gwadar district, police said on Thursday.

According to Ormara Station House Officer (SHO) Bashir Ahmed, the deceased was identified as Raja, a resident of Makola in Pasni tehsil. Ahmed said Raja had been staying overnight as a guest at the residence, or bethak, of a local man identified as Syed Muheem Jan.

“Raja was preparing to leave for his home on Thursday morning when he attempted to start the motorcycle. At that point, the IED attached to the vehicle detonated in a powerful explosion, killing him on the spot,” he said.

The Ormara SHO said that following the incident, police and personnel from other law enforcement agencies reached the scene and cordoned off the area. Officials began collecting evidence from the site as part of the investigation.

Police said inquiries had been launched to determine the exact nature of the explosion, how the explosive device came to be attached to the motorcycle, and the motives behind the attack.

“Investigators are continuing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible,” he added.

Separately, five people including a police constable were safely returned to their homes on Thursday after having been abducted in separate incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu and its surrounding areas.

According to police sources, the abducted Constable Zareen Khan – posted at Utmankhel Police Station – as well as two residents of Pathona Mamandkhel, were released and returned home safely. Their release was reportedly secured through the efforts of local elders and a tribal jirga.

Separately, a resident of Sathi Khel Sorani, who had been taken away by unidentified individuals several days earlier, also returned home safely. His family members and local residents expressed relief and happiness upon his return.

Additionally, Nisar Khan, the headmaster of Government High School Sardar Khan Mandev in Miryan tehsil, also safely returned home after being abducted from the school premises on Wednesday.
