Authorities in Karachi have implemented extensive security measures for the central 9th Muharram procession, including the suspension of mobile phone services in key areas. More than 5,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of participants and maintain public order. The measures aim to facilitate the smooth conduct of one of the city’s largest Muharram gatherings.
The central Majlis was held at Nishtar Park at 10am, where religious scholar Allama Shehnshah Hussain Naqvi addressed mourners. Following the gathering, the main procession is scheduled to begin from Nishtar Park at 1pm and proceed along its traditional route through the city.
During the procession, mourners will offer Zuhrain prayers outside Imam Bargah Ali Raza on M.A. Jinnah Road. The procession will then continue through designated routes before concluding at Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar later in the day.
According to Karachi Police, comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place along the entire route. Authorities have deployed more than 5,000 officers and personnel, while surveillance and monitoring measures have also been enhanced to prevent any security incidents.
As part of the security plan, roads, markets, shops, and streets connected to the procession route have been sealed with containers. Mobile phone services have also been suspended around Nishtar Park and surrounding areas to strengthen security and support law enforcement operations during the event.
