Naval chief calls for new approach to future warfare

Published on: June 24, 2026 4:40 PM

Chief of Naval Staff visits Navy War College Lahore

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf has stressed the need to rethink traditional military strategies, saying the changing nature of warfare requires armed forces to adapt to emerging technologies and evolving security challenges.

The naval chief made the remarks during a visit to the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, where he addressed officers participating in the 55th Pakistan Navy Staff Course, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Admiral Naveed Ashraf said future conflicts will demand a reassessment of conventional warfighting concepts and a stronger focus on developing a technologically proficient and intellectually capable workforce. He emphasized that modern warfare is rapidly evolving, requiring military organizations to remain flexible and prepared for both conventional and non-conventional threats.

During his address, the naval chief highlighted the growing importance of innovation, strategic thinking, and advanced technological capabilities in maintaining national security. He noted that military forces must continuously refine their operational approaches to keep pace with changing battlefield dynamics.

Discussing regional maritime security, Admiral Ashraf observed that the Indian Ocean Region remains a strategically significant and increasingly contested area. He pointed to shifting geopolitical realities and growing competition among regional and global powers as factors influencing the security environment.

The naval chief reiterated the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to modernization, indigenization, and greater joint cooperation among the country’s armed forces. He encouraged course participants to strengthen their strategic insight, analytical abilities, and operational foresight to effectively address future challenges.

Admiral Ashraf also stressed the importance of professional excellence and innovation in military leadership. He urged officers to embrace new ideas and technologies while maintaining high standards of discipline and service.

Concluding his visit, the naval chief congratulated participants on the successful completion of the staff course and expressed confidence that they would contribute effectively to the Pakistan Navy’s future missions and strategic objectives.
