Disney’s “Toy Story 5” has achieved the highest-grossing opening weekend of the year in North America, earning an estimated $160 million. The performance is significant as it confirms continued strong audience demand for family-oriented films in global cinema markets. The result also strengthens Pixar’s position in the competitive animation industry.
Industry estimates show the film delivered the strongest opening in the “Toy Story” franchise to date. The figure is approximately 37 percent higher than the previous installment, “Toy Story 4.” Analysts said the result reflects sustained popularity of long-running animated series.
The film features returning characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and their group of toys. The storyline focuses on their struggle for relevance in a world increasingly dominated by technology. The cast includes Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack in key voice roles.
Experts noted that the release over the Father’s Day weekend contributed to strong ticket sales. The film opened across more than 4,000 screens in the United States and Canada. It is now expected to become one of the highest-grossing animated openings of all time.
Other films also performed modestly at the box office during the same weekend. “Disclosure Day” took second place, while “Obsession” and “Backrooms” continued steady runs. However, “Toy Story 5” clearly dominated overall ticket sales and audience turnout.
