Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a plan to transform the federal government’s monitoring system through real-time digital oversight. The move is aimed at improving governance efficiency, strengthening coordination, and enhancing public service delivery. Officials say the initiative marks a major step toward AI-driven administration in Pakistan.
The decision is part of the Digital Nation Pakistan Initiative, under which a centralized monitoring platform called the Prime Minister’s Office System (PMOS) has been developed. The system is designed to connect all federal ministries with the Prime Minister’s Office through a unified digital network. It allows real-time tracking of government projects, tasks, and policy milestones.
During a review meeting chaired by Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, officials were briefed on the system’s capabilities. Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and senior government representatives also attended the session. The Pakistan Digital Authority presented a demonstration of the AI-powered platform.
According to officials, PMOS includes automated alerts that flag overdue tasks and send notifications to relevant officers. The system also enables instant communication of directives from the Prime Minister’s Office to ministries. Authorities say this feature is expected to improve accountability and reduce delays in implementation.
In addition, a sovereign AI-based research tool has been introduced to assist officials in accessing past decisions and government records. The system is designed to function as a virtual assistant for bureaucrats and improve workflow efficiency. The government says the broader goal is to modernize governance through digital integration and artificial intelligence.
