Iran does not seek war but will not compromise on its sovereignty and national dignity, President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Wednesday. He warned that Iran cannot be forced into submission through threats or external pressure. The remarks come amid rising regional tensions and affect ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran marking the anniversary of Ayatollah Khomeini’s death, Pezeshkian said prolonged conflict would not serve Iran’s interests. However, he stressed that the country would never surrender if attacked. Moreover, he said Iran would resist any attempt to undermine its independence or national identity.
The Iranian president said the current uncertainty between war and peace must be resolved through diplomacy. He added that the government remains committed to ending the diplomatic deadlock. Furthermore, he said Iran aims to maintain sovereignty while pursuing constructive negotiations.
Pezeshkian also rejected the idea that military pressure could force any nation into surrender. He argued that past conflicts had shown the limits of coercion and force. Additionally, he said efforts to isolate Iran or divide the region had failed due to diplomatic engagement.
However, he emphasized the need for national unity in the face of external pressure. The president said Iran’s leadership had authorized negotiations to resolve outstanding issues. Still, he warned that any aggression would be met with firm resistance.
