Pakistan has extended the closing time for standalone grocery and kiryana stores to 10pm under revised austerity measures. The decision aims to provide relief to consumers while maintaining fuel conservation policies. It affects small retailers and daily shoppers across the country.
The decision was taken by a committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. The committee reviewed fuel conservation and austerity measures already in place since March. Moreover, it recommended extending the overall framework until June 30.
Earlier, the government had introduced strict austerity steps in response to economic pressure and regional tensions. These included reduced fuel allowances, limits on official vehicle use, and restrictions on foreign travel. Additionally, several exemptions were reviewed during the latest meeting.

The committee also decided to keep consular attestation services open on Fridays at multiple cities. These include Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Gujrat. Furthermore, officials said the move aims to improve public facilitation despite reduced government working days.
Meanwhile, the broader austerity policy remains in effect as authorities manage fiscal constraints. However, selective relaxations reflect attempts to balance economic discipline with public convenience. The government continues to assess adjustments based on operational needs.
