Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said that security forces carried out precision strikes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing 26 militants in operations targeting what authorities described as terrorist hideouts and training facilities.
In a statement posted on social media, the minister said the strikes were conducted in response to recent terrorist incidents inside Pakistan. He said the operations were “precise and calibrated,” based on credible intelligence, and targeted safe havens used by militant groups.
According to the statement, four sites were destroyed in the operation, including a training centre, a hideout, an ammunition storage site, and additional facilities linked to militant commanders. The government said the targets were associated with individuals identified as planners and facilitators of attacks inside Pakistan.
Authorities described the militants as members of “Fitna-al-Khawarij,” a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Officials said the strikes were part of an ongoing counterterrorism campaign aimed at dismantling militant networks operating along border regions.
The minister linked the operation to a series of recent attacks inside Pakistan, including an assault on a security post in Peshawar in which several personnel were killed, as well as other attempted attacks in North Waziristan and Bannu. He said Pakistan’s response was part of a broader strategy under the national counterterrorism framework.
Islamabad has repeatedly accused militants of using Afghan territory as a base for cross-border attacks, allegations denied by the Afghan Taliban, who say Pakistan’s security challenges are an internal matter.
Pakistan has urged the Afghan authorities to take action against militant sanctuaries, while also stressing its commitment to regional peace and stability. Officials said counterterrorism operations will continue as part of efforts to eliminate threats to national security.
The development comes amid ongoing regional diplomatic engagement, including mediation efforts by China aimed at easing tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.
