
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom has successfully secured its full Rs22 billion development budget for the upcoming financial year without any reductions. The decision follows directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, ensuring continued financial support for Pakistan’s digital growth initiatives.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima confirmed that the ministry will receive the complete allocation it requested. She noted that while other ministries faced budget cuts, the IT sector’s funding remained fully protected to support long-term digital development goals.

Furthermore, she explained that the Ministry of Finance and Planning, along with the prime minister, is prioritizing investment in the IT sector. According to her, this approach reflects the government’s broader focus on strengthening innovation, digital infrastructure and economic competitiveness.
In addition, Shaza Fatima stated that the ministry’s total IT-related budget, including long-term projects, has reached Rs76 billion. She highlighted that special funds have been reserved for artificial intelligence training, startup support and several AI-based development projects across the country.

Moreover, the minister emphasized that implementation of the national AI policy is advancing at a fast pace. She said the government is focusing on artificial intelligence as a key driver of future growth, while also expanding digital training opportunities for youth across different regions.
Finally, she added that improved connectivity, especially in rural areas and regions like Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, remains a major priority. She stressed that stronger digital access will support education, business activity and emergency response systems, ultimately strengthening Pakistan’s position in the global digital economy.
